Shipping Your Car:

Maui has virtually no public transportation system. Unless you are going to live very near your work, you will need a car to get around. Vehicles are more expensive here hence most people ship their car from the mainland via Matson Navigation. Matson ships from Tacoma, Oakland and Long Beach, costs around $1000 for a car. You will not be allowed to leave as much as a toothbrush inside the vehicle. Plan on your vehicle taking 2 - 3 weeks to arrive.

Shipping Your Stuff:

By Sea: Matson Navigation or Horizon Lines. The post office offers surface shipping, could take up to 6 weeks or longer to reach Maui.

By Air: DHX (877-2822), or Lynden Air Freight (871-7130). The U.S. Postal Service, Federal Express, and UPS also provide air mail services. UPS offers ground shipping from Hawaii to the mainland, but not the other way around. Ocean freight via Matson or Horizon is by far the least expensive shipping method if you have lots of stuff.
