Improve the World, Support Great Charities!

If you consider outdoor activities entertainment (which I do), then Maui is world class. Walking, hiking, beach, biking, sailing, canoe, many forms of surfing, paragliding, etc., will keep you very entertained.

For a small island in the middle of the Pacific, the Maui Arts and Cultural Center does a pretty good job of bringing a variety of performances from around the world.

Beyond that, it gets very thin. Local clubs recycle the same handful of local bands, all of which are average at best. The bars have an endless parade of solo guitarist singing "Margaritaville". If you are used to what a city like San Francisco has to offer, then you may be disappointed as few up and coming bands can afford to play Maui. But it's a small island 2500 miles from LA, what can you expect? If you want more of a big city experience, Honolulu is only 20 minutes away by air.

There are other things like the Maui Film Festival, Taste of Lahaina, and Lahaina's Halloween extravaganza, a jazz festival, and the Slack Key Guitar Festival (great). But those are once a year affairs.

Maui has plenty of movie theaters, but be forewarned, locals love to talk during the film and there's not much you can do about it. This fact has converted many to the DVD scene.
